The Legend of Eden
On the shores of Lake Echternach, where the water reflects the sky like an ancient mirror, stands the Hotel Eden au Lac today.
But long before the bright rooms and peaceful gardens, the hill already held a memory. In Roman times, a lordly residence dominated the heights. The remains of the Villa Romana Echternach still bear witness to this.
It was said that the builders had chosen this place for its gentle, almost protective energy.
Centuries later, Willibrord, founder of Echternach Abbey, liked to retreat there to meditate. He spoke of a place where the soul found clarity and peace.
Some say that he blessed the hidden spring that was already gushing forth beneath the trees.

The Legend of the Fountain of Eden
But the true legend of Eden begins long before the hotel was built, when the hill was still a deep forest.
One day, a little boy named Jos got lost there. That's when he heard a soft murmur. Parting the branches, he discovered a clear spring gushing forth between some stones. When he stood up, a presence was standing behind him: a woman draped in a light veil. It was later said that she was the ancient protector of the Romans who lived near the Villa Romana and that she had also watched over Willibrord centuries later. She said softly, "This spring is the primordial water. It belongs to sincere hearts." Jos, surprised but not afraid, made a simple wish: to find his family from whom he had strayed. The woman touched the water with her fingertips. A fine light spread across it, like a thread of silver, then vanished. The next day, Jos found his way back. And a few days later, he was reunited with his family.
Since that day, the rumor has been passed down through generations: The Fountain of Eden only grants one type of wish, a true one. It is said that throwing a copper coin into the water allows you to deposit your dearest wish…provided it is sincere.
When the Hotel Eden au Lac was built on the shores of Lake Echternach, the older residents whispered that it wasn't by chance. They hadn't chosen the hill; the hill had called to them. Even today, on certain summer evenings, when the lake becomes a mirror and the garden is peaceful, the fountain's water sparkles gently even when there's no wind. Then, the people of Echternach smile softly: someone has just made a sincere wish.
And in Eden, true wishes always find their way.

The Legend of the 4 Kiosks
In the heart of the Hotel Eden au Lac's park, four gazebos stand guard, each guarding an ancient secret. The powers of these gazebos are remnants of the gentle energy of the hill, which has watched over the place for centuries. It is said that those who listen to their stories with sincerity can receive a gift from Eden… if they know where to find them.
1. The Time Kiosk
It's the first one you encounter, close to the finish line. Long ago, weary travelers would rest there and recount stories of their journey. The Time Kiosk reminds us that every moment is precious and that every step leads to a new memory.
Clue: "Begin your quest where the journey begins."
2. The Forest Kiosk
In the heart of the foliage, the whisper of the wind and the song of the birds mingle with the legend of the woods. It is said that a young girl found an injured animal there and that by caring for it, she discovered the magic of the forest.
Clue: "Listen to the silence, beyond Japan."
3. The Water Kiosk
Here springs the legendary source, which grants sincere wishes. A mysterious lady with a light veil sometimes appears here, leaving a glow in the water. Locals say that making a wish here can make a dream come true.
Clue: "Look for the fountain that reflects the sky."
4. The Cloud Kiosk
Overlooking the lake and the park, this gazebo offers a magical view. Legend has it that a former caretaker of the site used to watch the passing clouds from here to divine the future. Today, those who stop here can see the world as if they were floating on it.
Clue: "Climb higher, where your gaze touches the sky and the lake."
And remember: those who listen to and respect the secrets of the kiosks leave carrying a little of the hill's magical energy, as if the legend itself accompanied them.
